Snazzy websites permalink

For the next few issues of this newsletter, we are going to have themes. This week’s theme is snazzy websites, so let’s get stuck in and enjoy some visual treats.

Eli Fitch - Personal Site

⚠️ Motion Warning ⚠️

A high-contrast, low-poly skull that’s 3d rendered as the main feature of the homepage

Eli is a super talent and their personal site is off the scale. I absolutely adore the skull on the homepage and the overall aesthetic.

Rino & Pelle

⚠️ Motion Warning ⚠️

A full-bleed carousel with serif heading

A good way to describe this website would be decadent. There is so much going on and so much movement. Even with these quantities, the motion is butter smooth, which is good to see.

BEM Cheatsheet

⚠️ Motion Warning ⚠️

An astronaught illustration floats around the title "BEM Cheatsheet"

This is a fantastic resource and a snazzy website. BEM can be tricky to get your head around and this website aims to help with that.

The folks at 9elements are a talented bunch and have featured in this newsletter in the past and as long as they keep making good stuff, they will continue to be!

Whereby

An off-white, slightly pink site with a massive condensed serif heading

A beautiful website and a very good service. Everyone is talking about video slimeballs, Zoom, at the moment, but these folks, in my opinion, are creating arguably a better and much less creepy service.

Our kids have had a couple of illnesses recently and with the NHS employing technology for consultations more, Whereby has really stood up well to the challenge and made ours and our doctor’s lives easier.

ShopTalk Show

⚠️ Motion Warning ⚠️

A website that very much resembles an oldschool terminal display with lots of asci stuff

I’m a ShopTalk super fan and I am also a super fan of their redesign. It’s a really unique look and feel, with lots of old school tricks and ASCII goodness.

Because Chris and Dave are very good people, it’s also really accessible too. I’m especially fond of the custom podcast player, which you can use to listen to the episode I was on.

Rogue Studio

⚠️ Motion Warning ⚠️

Massive type with a weird devil illustration on a red background

I kept this site to the end because I didn’t want your brain to explode early in the newsletter. I’m not even going to bother trying to describe what’s going on. Just click the link and prepare yourself to be amazed.

That’s all, folks permalink

I really hope that this newsletter is bringing you a bit of joy during these really tough times. It’s certainly giving me a bit of respite. It would be ace if you share it with a friend or two 🙂

We’re all in this together, so with that in mind, I’ve created a Piccalilli Community which I hope will be a nice place for us to hang out and chat about the web. I also created a Discord server for folks to hang out. Lots of people are suddenly working from home, so I hope this group will help reduce some of the isolation.

Until the next issue, take it easy.
